Last Sunday was Fathers Day here in Belgium and it is quite funny to discover the differences between the countries: it’s next Sunday in France and in the US for example, but it was the same day in Belgium and in the US for Mothers Day… and one week later in France. Gosh, can’t anyone decide once and for all for everyone? 🙂 Anyway this allows me to share with you today what we’ve done for Fathers Day and maybe inspire you if you’re still looking for an idea?
I wanted to do something different and fun and I thought about a Games of Thrones Viewing Party, as my husband really enjoys this serie. I also had to keep the prep work minimal because I knew I wouldn’t have a lot of time to do it.
For the setting first. I put a side table in front of the chairs and covered it with a tablecloth and a faux-fur scarf of mine. I also put some “diamonds” to decorate the table and some pine cones to give a Winter feel to the table.
Then the food. Everything had to be easy to eat just with the fingers. I put a mix of cheeses, fruits and italian crackers on my three tier plate stand. I chose some fruits with a kind of “medieval” look: blackberries, grapes, figs, pears… I also put some hummus, and pudding with Dijon mustard à l’ancienne. The little rolls are puff pastry covered with a mix of blue cheese, cream, chopped nuts and raisins. I cooked them in the oven at 450°F for 18-20 minuts and they were done. It worked perfectly with the fruits.
For dessert, there were some mini lemon pies and pop corn. I put it in a black pot of mine and decorated it with mini banners from the Houses of the serie. I found it on Pinterest and here is the link of the printable.
I also made a frame as a “card” for the day. I printed a picture of him with our son and added a little message. You can easily create one yourself with a program like canva.
To drink, I wanted some beer so my husband could enjoy it during the viewing. So I was very happy to find these very funny printable Games of thrones beer labels. I just printed them, cut them and glued them on other beer bootles and it was done!
In the background of the photo below, just behind the beer bottles, you’ll also see a Hurricane lamp. I realize I didn’t took a specific photo of them so sorry if it’s not very clear… I used the clever tip of the very talented (and one of my favourite blogger) Kelly, from Talk of the House: I added some granulated sugar in the lamp and put my candle in it. It looked like snow and it was perfect for a winter look!
And what about the gifts then? Well, I created a second side table just next to his chair forh them. There were comics, a new swimsuit and a bottle of rhum. The label was beautifully decorated with a vintage octopus drawing that reminded me of the emblem of the Greyjoy House.
And, last but not least, there was a dragon skull. What about that? 🙂
And voilà! It was a great night together and he was very pleased with the result. I hope you enjoyed these ideas too and I wish you all a very happy Fathers Day next Sunday!
