Here we go for the last step of our trip in Normandy! It was Sunday afternoon, the weather was sunny and warm and it was perfect for our last visit: Vandrimare Castle Garden. My husband and I are gardens lovers, as you may know, and one of our favourite activity is to pick a garden that we would love to visit to organize a one-day-trip to a new area, usually in France and Belgium. I bought several years ago a gorgeous gardening book called “Leurs Secrets” (Their secrets) in which a few talented gardeners present their garden and share some gardening tips.
The book is beautiful and very inspiring and it’s the perfect source for garden visit ideas in France. Vandrimare was one of them, and it was in the area of Rouen. So it was the perfect
occasion to pay it a visit.
We had the chance to be welcomed by the owner of the castle herself, Marie-Christiane de la Conté, who restored the entire garden several years ago. She offered us a little visit of the garden and it was a pleasure to enjoy her tips and explaination about this fabulous estate.
The garden had indeed lived a lot of transformations through the centuries and Marie-Christiane, who has degree in History, made some research to find the original plans of the garden and to give it its splendour back. It was hard work but the result is certainly worth it. She also showed us her amazing 200 years old Magnolia acuminata that you’ll can see in the photos below. As you’ll see, it’s a magnificient classical and romantic garden. I let you enjoy these pics and don’t hesitate to ask if you’re interested in more information about the Castle or the photos!
